| Beaches of Cayo Largo Cuba |
Cayo Largo is the best jewel in the Los Canarreos Archipelago, off the southern coast of the Cuban mainland. The archipelago also includes 300 other cays (with a total of 38 miles, or 62 km, of virgin beaches) and the Isle of Youth (the second largest island in the Cuban archipelago). Cayo Largo has 15.5 miles (25 km) of breathtaking beautiful beaches with emerald green water. One of them is the stunning virgin Sirena Beach, has oolitic sand which always remains cool, no matter how strong the sun.is Nearly, there are more than 200 sunken ships dating from between the 16th and the 18th centuries. According to the legend, some of Henry Morgan's treasure is still buried in the area.
Cayo Largo has a land area of only 15 square miles (40 square km), first class hotels and services, and virgin nature with abundant species of flora and fauna. The seabed in the area has 32 scuba-diving sites fascinating coral formations, tunnels, steep walls covered with Gorgonian Coral reefs and a wealth of multicolored marine life.
Cayo Largo del Sur stretches along 27 km of virgin beaches with warm and crystal-clear waters. The sand is very fine, white and permanently fresh, characteristics which are unlikely to be found in another site in Cuba and rarely in the world. The always-turquoise sky contrasts magnificently with the white coral sand. The moderate tropical weather boasts an average temperature of 27c and has few rainfalls.
Tainos Indians lived here 800 years ago. This place is a natural kingdom of ecological beauty in perfect balance that is home to 350 iguanas, chelonian, pelicans, parrots, and herons. The sea contains colorful and varied fauna, as well as a 19 nautical mile coral reef where different kinds of black coral can be admired in less than 35 m of water. A diversified flora characterized by coastal vegetation and four species of mangroves decorate the old dunes and beaches.
